
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with a homicide investigation in the Providence Division. After an investigation, detectives identified 33-year-old Rethanachantra Em and 32-year-old Borein Ngiem as suspects and obtained warrants for their arrest.
According to CMPD, Em and Ngiem were arrested on Thursday by the department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and the Crime Gun Suppression Team (CGST). Following their arrest, the suspects were taken to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) for interviews with homicide detectives. They were then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Rethanachantra Em faces charges including First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, while Borein Ngiem is charged with First Degree Murder and Felony Conspiracy, among other charges.
The CMPD’s official statement detailed additional charges against Em, including Attempted Theft of Motor Vehicle Parts and Felony Conspiracy. Ngiem faces similar charges, along with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The family of the victim, who has not been publicly identified, has been notified of the arrests and charges.
While the arrests represent a key development in the investigation, CMPD stated that the case remains active.
