The Sertoma Arts Center is offering winter and spring classes for all ages. Options include preschool art, jewelry making, and sensory-friendly activities, available for toddlers, teens, and adults. According to the City of Raleigh, children aged 1.5 to 2.5 can take the "Mini Monet" class with Michelle Davis Petelinz, focusing on art as well as motor and social skills. Kids aged 7 to 11 can participate in "Fantastic Beasts and How to Make Them," creating mythical creatures from various materials. Teens can join sketchbook drawing classes to learn techniques and develop their personal style.
Adults seeking to explore new artistic terrains have classes such as "Embroidered Portraits," where they can learn to stitch detailed visages, and "The Artist's Way for Women Part I," which is all about unlocking one’s creative potential, as described in the Sertoma Arts Center's press material, as per the city's release. Those more inclined towards hues and landscapes can venture into "Exploring Color Theory in Landscape Painting," a class that takes a hands-on approach to learning color theory through the act of painting itself.
As reported by the City of Raleigh, the "Exploring Narrative Through the Figure" offers an opportunity to create figurative sculptures that convey emotion and story, guided by instructor Sina Bennett; meanwhile, the more precision-oriented can hone their craft in "Finding Bits and Bobs," a jewelry-making class focused on those intricate details that can elevate a design. Furthermore, those new to glassmaking can get their hands on "Intro to Fused Mosaics," a beginner-friendly class that promises the joy of creating functional art from various materials, including recycled ones.
Sertoma Arts Center also offers "Sensory Friendly Creative Saturdays," free sessions designed for individuals with sensory processing challenges, City of Raleigh reported. These sessions provide quieter spaces, reduced lighting, and noise-canceling headsets, allowing participants of all ages and abilities to take part in art activities.
