The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced a series of overnight lane and ramp closures on Interstate 15 (I-15), affecting motorists who travel through the area. As reported by the official NDOT website, these traffic restrictions are part of the I-15 South Widening Project, necessary for the installation of loop detectors and upgrades to high-mast lighting. These closures are set to begin on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 7 and will see changes to normal traffic patterns.

According to NDOT's schedule, starting at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7 through 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, access to northbound I-15 from Blue Diamond Rd on-ramp will be blocked. Although, the Eastbound Blue Diamond Rd to northbound I-15 flyover is set to remain open for use. The following nights of Monday, Dec. 8 and Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., will also see the closure of Blue Diamond Rd on-ramp to southbound I-15.

Moving forward through the week after, motorists planning to use the St. Rose Pkwy on-ramp to northbound I-15 need to look at alternatives as the ramp will close from 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 through 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10. As if maneuvering these disruptions wasn't challenging enough, on Thursday, Dec. 11, north and southbound I-15 will be further reduced to a single lane between Starr Ave and Sloan Rd from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the following morning, for those driving through the work zones of the widening project, caution is advised.

NDOT recommends that drivers plan ahead for these restrictions and consider using alternate detour routes when available. Real-time traffic updates, including closures and restrictions, are made accessible to the public via a collaboration between NDOT and Waze. While these lane and ramp closures are planned, NDOT cautions that the schedule could change due to weather conditions or other unforeseen factors that affect road work. Stay informed and drive safely through work zones, and by all means, avoid these closures and the likely congestion they will bring if at all possible.
