The city prepares for a flurry of weather activity today as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued several alerts to the residents, including a Wind Advisory effective from noon until 10 PM EST; wrapped in cautious tones, the NWS warns of west winds reaching 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 55 mph that could disrupt the day-to-day with their untamed force and unpredictability, urging the public to secure any outdoor objects that could be victims to the wind's whims. According to a forecast by the NWS, the advisory encompasses Washington DC and parts of Maryland, Virginia, and eastern West Virginia.
The weather outlook for the D.C. area presents a roller-coaster of temperatures and conditions; starting from this morning's showers and possible thunderstorms that might summon winds strong enough to knock down tree limbs and incite a few power outages, the city will witness temperatures take a dive as the day progresses with brisk winds shifting from south to west, with the mercury falling to near 38 by the late afternoon, meanwhile tonight bids farewell to the rain and ushers in clearer skies albeit with a continuance of brisk winds that will mellow down past midnight.
Residential and commuting populations are advised to anchor down for a breezy night as the winds intend to persist, particularly on elevated terrains, where the gales could maintain their vigor well into the darkness. The NWS foresees a drop in temperature to about 27 degrees under the watch of a mostly clear sky. People driving high profile vehicles, especially, need to take caution navigating through these blustery conditions, as advised by the NWS.
After today’s unsettled weather, conditions are expected to improve in the coming days. No hazardous weather is forecast, with calmer conditions ahead. Saturday will be sunny, followed by a warmer Sunday with highs near 50 degrees. Temperatures dip slightly on Monday, but the rest of the week is expected to remain mostly sunny and clear, aside from a chance of rain on Tuesday. By Christmas Day, the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 57 degrees.
