Washington D.C. is prepping for a bit of holiday cheer with the National Kiss Under the National Mistletoe event set for this Saturday and, with it, comes a heads-up for those driving in the District. As reported by the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, get ready for some festive disruptions if your travel plans include the heart of the nation's capital.
The smooch-centric occasion is resulting in emergency no-parking zones on K Street from 7th Street to 9th Street, NW, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m on Saturday, according to an advisory posted by MPDC. Additionally, that same stretch of K Street will be completely off-limits to traffic from noon until the evening, to ensure the safety of pedestrians partaking in the mistletoe festivities.
These street closures and parking restrictions are subject to change, but as of now, the city advises all vehicles parked illegally to be braced for tickets and towing. For those driving near the event, alternative routes are recommended due to expected delays from the influx of participants and onlookers. The D.C. Police Traffic's website is the place to check for real-time updates on the day.
As the Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation point out, extra attention is warranted for motorists in the vicinity of these events, hence the need to proceed with caution due to the increased pedestrian presence.
