The morning may be marked by patchy fog which is predicted to clear up as the day progresses. The chance of precipitation stands at 40% with new precipitation amounts possibly less than a tenth of an inch.
Gusty winds are also on today's menu, with wind speeds that could to reach up to 32 mph as a cold front makes its departure. Tonight, the skies are expected to stay clear with temperatures dropping to around 25 degrees. Gusty conditions continue with west northwest winds between 6 and 11 mph and gusts that might climb as high as 25 mph.
The brief encounter with precipitation will give way to sunnier skies on Tuesday, the NWS states. The temperature should climb to a high near 44 under sunny conditions, coupled with a lighter west northwest wind of around 5 to 8 mph. While Tuesday night will remain mostly clear, with a low around 26.
Looking ahead, Wednesday promises more sun and a spike in the mercury, with a high near 51 degrees to anticipate. The wind will maintain its presence, projecting to gust as high as 21 mph. As for the rest of the week and leading into the New Year, Charlotte will be graced with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies, and temperatures hovering in the lower to mid-50s. However, be ready for a potential increase in rain chances by Friday night, with a 50 percent likelihood of rain after 1 am.
In terms of safety, the NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook highlighting the increased risk of wildfires due to the mix of brisk, gusty winds and low relative humidity for today and tonight. This caution extends to northeast Georgia, Piedmont North Carolina, western North Carolina, and Upstate South Carolina—areas where dry, dead vegetation could kindle fires more easily. However, there is no hazardous weather anticipated from Tuesday through Sunday.
