The Weber County Sheriff's Office has released new details about a homicide case from earlier this year. In a statement released on social media, the Sheriff's Office provided an update on investigation 25WC30717, following a fatal shooting incident that occurred on August 31. The shooting, which resulted in the death of Jesus Garcia and injuries to a 5-year-old girl and another adult male, took place during a large gathering in an unincorporated area of Weber County. According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies found a chaotic scene with multiple vehicles attempting to flee when they arrived shortly after the shooting was reported at around 1:00 AM.
Jesus Garcia, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head was flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital, where he died on September 4, 2025, after being taken off life support. The other victims are reportedly recovering, with the child having sustained a non-life-threatening injury to her leg and the adult male shot in the shoulder. Eighteen-year-old Michael Gaisbaur Jr. of Perry, Utah, was arrested on the same day Garcia passed away and has been booked for multiple charges, which include Aggravated Murder, Felony Discharge of a Firearm, and Obstruction of Justice. Despite this early arrest, evidence pointed to other shooters involved, and the investigation pressed on, according to the Weber County Sheriff's Office, in a social media post.
A joint effort by Weber County Sheriff’s Office detectives, Weber-Metro CSI, and the Weber-Morgan Homicide Task Force, along with the involvement of the Ogden-Metro SWAT Team, led to a months-long investigation pursuing every lead. This effort included conducting dozens of interviews, issuing 52 search warrants for varied evidence including location data, cell phone forensics, DNA, fingerprints, and retrieval of firearms from residences. The intense investigation outcome has seen the recent arrest of two teenagers, 15 and 17 years old, on charges of Murder, among other offenses, as they both allegedly had connections to criminal gangs and had been in possession of firearms.
Echoing the concerns of their community, the Sheriff's Office expressed frustration over the prevalence of violent crimes involving juveniles. "Our hearts go out to the victims and their families," the office wrote in their statement, "There is nothing that can ever replace a loved one, and this case will undoubtedly leave lasting emotional and physical scars." The statement also acknowledged the dedication of law enforcement in working towards securing the community and seeking justice for those affected. They appealed for anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
