Gregory Jones, a 32-year-old from Martinsburg, West Virginia, was convicted in Maryland for the 2018 double murder of Ashley Dickinson and Joshua Frazier, following a retrial after a successful appeal. The murders were investigated after officers responded to a "suspicious situation" involving a vehicle with a bullet hole, as per DC News Now.
The victims were found shot inside a parked Audi in Burtonsville on February 15, 2018, and cell tower data and call history placed Jones at the scene, as obtained by The Banner. His cousin, Tyshon Jones, was killed hours later in a nightclub shootout where casings matching those from the murders were recovered.
Jones, previously sentenced to two life terms without parole, had his conviction overturned, leading to a new trial. The jury found he owed Frazier money, which was believed to be the motive for the killings described as "This was a vicious, execution-style double murder." He was convicted and faces two life sentences without parole plus 40 years. Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy said, "Our hearts are with the families of Ashley Dickinson and Joshua Frazier who have had to endure not one, but two trials," and "We are grateful to our prosecution team and the members of the Montgomery County Police Homicide Division who remain dedicated to the pursuit of justice and ensuring the safety of our community," as mentioned by MyMCMedia. Jones’s sentencing is scheduled for February 10, 2026. He had also received a 30-year sentence for a separate home invasion and robbery, which was later overturned.
