Early Tuesday morning, a significant blaze erupted at a North Side apartment building in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, resulting in injuries to a woman and a firefighter. The Chicago Fire Department reported that the fire began around 2 a.m. at the four-story complex located at 4909 N. Glenwood Ave., as per an article from NBC Chicago. Crews were dispatched and found the building engulfed in flames, with the efforts to extinguish the blaze causing streets to be blocked.
As firefighters battled to rapidly control the fire, heavy flames were seen pouring out of the building's windows. The intensive firefighting efforts culminated around 3:39 a.m. when the Chicago Fire Department declared the fire struck out, according to NBC Chicago. During the incident, at least six adults and one child were left without a home, with photos and videos from the scene displaying the severity of the fire as alarms echoed in the background.
NBC Chicago reported that a woman, suffering from smoke inhalation, was taken to a nearby hospital and was listed in good condition. Furthermore, FOX 32 Chicago stated that a firefighter was also transported to Advocate Masonic Medical Center with minor injuries. The extent of their afflictions, though, remains undisclosed.
The displaced residents were observed by authorities, who stood outside as plumes of smoke rose into the pre-dawn sky.
