Embodying the season's spirit of giving, deputies from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) made a heartwarming gesture by participating in two "Shop with a Cop" events last Saturday. According to YCSO's official news release, nearly three dozen deputies took part in these annual holiday shopping sprees, which were aimed at bringing joy to children in the community. The events, organized in partnership with Prescott PD and Cottonwood PD, saw deputies accompanying youngsters on shopping trips, which followed a festive 13-mile lights and siren parade in Prescott.
Among the deputies was the much-loved YCSO mascot, Deputy Do Right, who joined the festive activities in Prescott. The event involved a substantial cohort of about two dozen deputies and deserving youngsters making their way to the Wal Mart on Gail Gardner Way. In Cottonwood, an additional dozen deputies participated in making the holidays brighter for more children. Santa, unable to use his reindeer for transport, made a grand entrance at both locations via helicopter.
The YCSO also expressed gratitude to Prescott PD for including a moving tribute to two late law enforcement veterans during the holiday events. As noted in the press release, "This year, Prescott PD included a tribute to fallen YCSO Sgt Rick 'R-Lo' Lopez, along with Mark McClain of Prescott, another longtime law enforcement veteran who passed away in September." Both men were remembered for their passionate support of the Shop with a Cop program.
With an eye toward the future, YCSO is already looking forward to duplicating this charitable endeavor in 2026. The sincere hope for a safe and happy holiday season was echoed in their message to the community, cementing a bond between law enforcement and the people they serve. These efforts not only bring smiles during the festive season but also strengthen communal ties year-round.
