
Following an investigation into a fatal shooting in Las Vegas, authorities have arrested 21-year-old Jamon Hawkins, identified as a suspect in the incident. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Hawkins was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers on Monday and is awaiting extradition to Las Vegas on charges of open murder.
The incident that led to Hawkins’ arrest occurred on a Sunday afternoon on Sierra Vista Drive, near the intersections of Maryland Parkway and East Desert Inn Road. Police responded to the scene around 12:20 p.m. and found a man in his car with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation progressed as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Homicide Section reconstructed the events leading to the shooting. Homicide Lieutenant Robert Price stated that a verbal argument occurred between a group in the middle of the street, during which someone fired multiple shots at the victim. The confrontation took place in a public area.
The group involved in the altercation, described as three or four people, left the scene before law enforcement arrived. Authorities have asked anyone with information to come forward.
