A 22-year-old man, Devin Delvalle, has been convicted of manslaughter after hitting 14-year-old Logan Dark, a Cinco Ranch High School student, while he was riding his bicycle to school on Mason Road on September 28, 2023. Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan called it, "This is a very sad and tragic incident on both sides, for the driver, and especially for the victim's family," according to KHOU.
Delvalle was arrested under Texas laws with stricter penalties for crashes at crosswalks, as officials noted the accident could have been prevented. Fort Bend County District Attorney Brian Middleton said, "Every part of this was avoidable. He died needlessly. This area was clearly marked ... signage everywhere ... there were all kinds of warnings. This is very avoidable. Slow down. Keep a proper lookout."
The jury started deciding Delvalle's sentence. He could get probation, up to 20 years in prison, or a fine of $10,000. This comes after he pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the fatal incident, as per Click2Houston.
