Months of investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office culminated in the arrest of a 22-year-old man in connection with a fatal summer shooting that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old. The Sheriff's Office reports that the shooting occurred on June 11, 2025, at an apartment complex on Cleveland Road, leaving three wounded and one, young Marcus Thompson, deceased from his injuries. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest.
The suspect, identified as Samuel Chaney, was already in custody for an unrelated charge when he was arrested for the murder of Thompson. A painstaking process that involved sifting through witness testimonies and evidence led detectives to Chaney. "Our detectives arrested a 22-year-old man this afternoon after he killed an 18-year-old over the summer," detailed the statement from the sheriff's office.
As for Chaney, details of his preliminary hearings or a potential trial have yet to be made public. The Sheriff's Office, however, remains committed to seeking justice for Thompson and those affected. "Our hearts go out to Thompson’s loved ones, and we will continue to seek justice for him," the sheriff's office expressed in their social media post.
