Authorities arriving at the chaotic scene found multiple vehicles involved in the crash, with one person lifeless after being ejected from a car. When confirming the fatalities and injuries, done by the Los Angeles Fire Department, they found at least three vehicles with significant damage. A SigAlert was issued following the crash, restricting the 5 Freeway to a single open lane between Glendale and Los Feliz boulevards as cleanup and investigations were underway.
In a statement provided by the Los Angeles Fire Department, "One (25M) was determined dead on scene after being ejected from a vehicle," highlights the immediate aftermath faced by the responders. The identity of the deceased has yet to be disclosed pending next of kin notification. The statement obtained from an LAFD alert further detailed the condition of the injured parties: a seriously injured 28-year-old man, and four others—two 22-year-old men, a 35-year-old woman, and a 61-year-old man—all in fair condition, were taken to a hospital for treatment.
