An early morning blaze in St. Clair Township resulted in tragic loss on Wednesday, as a 47-year-old woman perished in a house fire. St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office deputies rushed to the scene on the 4300 block of Yankee Road after a 2:20 a.m. call reported a fire with people inside the residence. ClickOnDetroit notes that upon their arrival, officers found two individuals, a 73-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, safely on the front porch, but another woman remained trapped within the inferno.
Sheriff's deputies tried to enter the building but were blocked by smoke and flames on the first floor. St. Clair Area Fire Authority firefighters rescued the woman, later identified as Laura Bramlett, through a second-story window. She was transported to a local hospital but later died from her injuries, according to CBS Detroit News.
As is protocol with incidents of a tragic nature, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office is leading an investigation to determine the cause and origins of the fatal fire. The identity of the deceased was confirmed by authorities and family members have been notified. The release from the sheriff's office did not comment on the potential cause of the fire or if foul play is suspected at this time.
