A seven-year-old girl is recovering after a shooting incident at a northwest Harris County apartment complex, authorities reported. The shooting occurred yesterday night, just after 11 p.m. on Alabonson Road, where deputies from the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office were dispatched following reports of a child sustaining an injury. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the young girl with a gunshot wound to the leg, as detailed in a report by Click2Houston.
The injured child was immediately taken to the hospital, where she is currently listed in stable condition and receiving medical attention. As the investigation unfolds, officials are still piecing together the circumstances that led to the gunshot wound. "We are still trying to figure out how the child sustained a gunshot wound. So right now, we are conducting interviews and following up with medical staff at the hospital at this time," reported a representative from the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office in an interview told KHOU.
Authorities are in the process of conducting interviews with multiple individuals to determine who was present during the incident. Child Protective Services has been engaged to address concerns about the child's welfare. At this stage, no charges have been filed, but the case could potentially be referred to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office once the investigation reaches a conclusion.
While officials navigate through this unfortunate event, many questions remain unanswered regarding the shooting. The active investigation continues as authorities have their work cut out, seeking to unveil the truth behind the trauma inflicted on a child's life in the quiet hours of a Harris County night.
