Earlier this January, a somber incident pierced the calm of a Columbus neighborhood when an 82-year-old man was found deceased in his home. The Columbus Division of Police responded to a report concerning a body found at the 2600 block of Caralee Pl.
Upon the officers' arrival, they discovered James Simpson Sr., aged 82, lifeless within the confines of his residence. In a statement posted to their social media account, the Columbus Division of Police disclosed that Portia Martin, aged 55, was found at the scene. Charged with murder, during her arrest, Portia Martin admitted to playing a role in the demise of Mr. Simpson and confessed to law enforcement at the scene.
The investigation into the death of James Simpson Sr. is ongoing. Police have not yet released a motive or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
