The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is bringing back its whimsical Name-A-Snowplow Contest for a fourth year, offering Arizonans a chance to leave their mark on the state's winter response efforts, as reported by ADOT.
Contributions are welcome for imaginative naming of four of ADOT’s snowplows through their website up to Feb. 2, submissions can be limitless and those interested can register with an email address for notifications in case their suggestions win; last year's contest saw names like "CTRL + SALT + DELETE" and "Scoop Dog" taking home the prize amongst 2,100 entries and 14,000 votes cast. ADOT's fleet, consisting of 200 snowplows, traveled in excess of 615,000 miles on Arizona's highways during the 2024-2025 winter season, demonstrating the vital role these machines and their operators play in maintaining road safety during snowy conditions, said ADOT Director Jennifer Toth in a statement obtained by the organization's press team.
After the submission phase concludes, ADOT will vet all potential names to narrow the list down to 12-15 contenders, on which the public can then vote; the top four names will be commemorated on snowplows with dedicated decals.
As per ADOT, when you come across these snowplows, perhaps even "Scoop Dog" amongst them, several safety tips should be followed: do not attempt to pass a snowplow, keep a safe distance of at least four car-lengths behind, slow down and afford the plow plenty of room, these guidelines are in place to ensure everyone's safety on the roads during perilous winter weather conditions.
