Burning Man is officially dusting itself off from last year’s chaos and reopening the gates to Black Rock City 2026. Ticketing has begun for the next run in the Nevada desert, with registration opening January 26 and the earliest "Sunrise Sale" set for February 4. Organizers say they expect more than 70,000 participants from over 100 countries to roll in under this year’s theme, "Axis Mundi," which they are pitching as a reset toward art, participation and the core culture that built the event in the first place.
As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, the nonprofit Burning Man Project has laid out a detailed sales calendar, including registration for the Sunrise Sale opening at noon on January 26. Organizers told the Chronicle they are planning for more than 70,000 people from over 100 countries, and they also flagged additional sales in the pipeline, including stewards’ tickets in March and a main sale in April, depending on how many tickets are still available.
Ticket Tiers And A New Payment Plan
This year’s Sunrise Sale comes with a familiar spread of choices and a not-so-familiar level of payment flexibility. The sale will feature limited "Get the Gift" tickets at $675, "Pay Your Way" tickets at $775, and "Give the Gift" options at $975, $1,500 and $3,000. Vehicle passes are priced at $165, and for most buyers, orders are capped at two tickets and one vehicle pass. Organizers are extending payment plans across all sales and expanding access-oriented efforts, including Ticket Aid and a Resilience Program designed for people facing financial or logistical barriers. Those details are laid out by Burning Man Project.
After A Turbulent 2025
All of this is unfolding in the shadow of a 2025 festival that was turbulent even by Black Rock standards. Last year’s event was hit with extreme weather, including thunderstorms, dust storms and flooding that at times forced gate closures and left attendees stranded in the mud. On top of that, there was a homicide investigation inside Black Rock City, and dozens of people required medical care for issues ranging from cardiac arrest to childbirth. At least one attendee was seriously injured after being struck by a Cybertruck art car. Those incidents helped fuel closer scrutiny of event operations and a federal lawsuit alleging that some creators were unlawfully blocked from filming cleanup, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
What To Watch Before Sales Open
Prospective buyers are being urged to get their homework done before racing for tickets. Participants must register ahead of each sale window and review the FAQs on payment plans and STEP, the Secure Ticket Exchange Program, which opens March 18 for verified resales. The ticketing page from Burning Man Project also outlines the full schedule, including a Stewards Sale in March, a Main Sale in April if tickets remain, and Black Rock City 2026 itself running from August 30 to September 7. The organization says it will award $1.6 million in art grants this cycle and is putting extra emphasis on sustainability and accessibility as it fine tunes operations. The ticketing page lists the complete timeline, rules and fine print for anyone plotting their next dust-filled pilgrimage.
