Local law enforcement responded to a theft at a GameStop in Spanaway. According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, two males reportedly stole several gaming controllers on Saturday around 3:30 p.m. and fled on foot. Nearby deputies responded promptly, limiting the suspects’ ability to get far.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage and gathered descriptions of the individuals involved, while GameStop provided additional information to assist the investigation. The Yelm Police Department and Thurston County Sheriff’s Office identified a vehicle at the Yelm Shell gas station connected to the incident. The vehicle, which contained several boxes of new controllers in plain view, had two passengers and a driver, all of whom were taken into custody.
The Yelm Police Department and Thurston County Sheriff’s Office were acknowledged for their roles in the investigation, with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department issuing a public statement noting their assistance in the arrests. The vehicle was impounded under a warrant, enabling officers to recover the stolen items, which are expected to be returned to the GameStop store.
The suspects were taken into custody, and the recovered controllers were returned to GameStop. The incident occurred as law enforcement continued efforts to address retail theft in the area ahead of the weekend’s game.
