
Tragedy struck in Altamonte Springs when an 8-year-old boy suffered serious injuries following a collision between his dirt bike and a car. The incident, which occurred last night, is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. The collision took place at the intersection of S Ronald Reagan Blvd and Florence Avenue, a detail confirmed by WESH.
According to WFTV, the young rider was heading southbound in the outside lane on his 2023 Yamaha dirt bike when, for reasons yet to be clarified, he lost control and swerved into the inside lane. It was there that his bike collided with a 2004 Toyota Avalon.
The collision occurred around 6:05 p.m., during a time of day when the streets can be bustling with traffic. The driver of the Avalon, a 56-year-old man from Orlando, and his 18-year-old passenger remained unharmed and cooperatively stayed on the scene, as highlighted in a statement obtained by WESH.
The impact of the crash was severe, with the left side of the dirt bike striking the front right of the car, causing the boy to be ejected and hit the car a second time. Emergency services arrived promptly, and the young boy was subsequently transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital to treat his serious injuries.
