Anne Arundel County Fire & Rescue teams displayed their dedication to all residents, including the canine kind, in a rescue operation on Luce Creek today. A chocolate lab found itself in a precarious situation, trapped on the treacherous terrain of a fully frozen creek. Quick to respond, the teams utilized a Stokes basket to secure and retrieve the distressed dog from the ice. Following the successful rescue, emergency officials took to social media, sharing images of the dog as it received medical attention.
"This rescue is a reminder that our crews are always ready for every member of our community, even our four-legged ones," read the post from the officials, as reported by WMAR2News. The incident served as an opportune moment to reiterate safety warnings regarding frozen waterways. The public was urged to keep pets leashed near icy waters and to call 911 rather than attempt an independent rescue if a person or pet falls through the ice.
Collaborative effort was essential in this rescue operation, as crews from the Annapolis Fire Department joined forces with their Anne Arundel County Fire Department counterparts after the call came in about the imperiled chocolate lab. Their swift action on the ice showcased the readiness and skill of these emergency teams. According to a WBALTV report, the teams carefully crossed the ice, with the life-saving Stokes basket in tow, to secure the dog's safety.
