Arlington Public Library has just received a sizable addition to its inventory - over 200 puzzles for library card holders to check out, thanks to a local couple’s donation in memory of their son. The collection celebrates everything from landscapes to famous artworks, ensuring an option for every age and preference.
Hillary Relyea and Ben Gerdts, Arlington residents, have found a way to keep their son Harvey's memory alive through this generous contribution. The puzzles on offer at the library vary in complexity, with the smallest being just 24 pieces, while the most daunting go up to 3,000 pieces, so whether you're a novice or a seasoned pro, there's something for you. Each puzzle box will carry a small but significant reminder of Harvey, featuring a sticker that reads "Donated in Memory of Harvey Gerdts."
Harvey was known for his love of the simple joys in life, and his empathy shone brightly in his everyday actions, as his family highlighted in a statement, per the City of Arlington. "Though his life was cut short, Harvey’s legacy of kindness and togetherness lives on in all who loved him. We hope these puzzles carry forward his spirit, fostering moments of connection and quiet joy in this community for years to come," they said.
Norma Zuniga, the Library Director, finds great meaning in this new collection. "This isn't just a collection of puzzles. It's a profound, beautiful tribute to the spirit of a little boy who found such deep joy and curiosity in them," Zuniga told the City of Arlington.
