Slated for January 24, the East Riverside Open House offers an engaging platform for the public to weigh in on various City-led initiatives.
According to a statement made by the City of Austin, the event will bridge discussions on housing, mobility, and public spaces, critical elements that constitute the neighborhood's foundation. District 3 City Council Member José Velásquez, whose district encompasses the East Riverside Corridor, underscored the significance of this juncture, stating, “We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape what’s next for the East Riverside Corridor in a way that serves the people who live here now.” Velásquez invites locals to unite and propel talks with city staffers and partners like CapMetro and Austin Transit Partnership (ATP).
On the agenda is a closer look at the East Riverside Corridor Planning Initiative and the new Grove-Riverside Site, a sprawling 125-acre area recently acquired by the city. Residents can explore preliminary plans for the site, which might include a mixed-use development featuring affordable housing tailored to local demands. Another key topic will be enhancements to public transit – the proposed Austin Light Rail and CapMetro's Transit Plan 2035 are set to bolster connectivity with new routes and greenways for cyclists and pedestrians.
