Baltimore residents can expect a dance of temperatures and precipitation this week, with an area of low pressure stirring up the climate mix as it approaches from the Midwest. According to the National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC, the pressure system makes its move today and continues a northward path on Wednesday, dragging a dry cold front through our region in its wake.
A pseudo warm front will feather its way north as the day progresses, with southeasterly flow likely to kick high temperatures into the 50s, possibly even low 60s in parts of the Shenandoah Valley. However, it's not all brightness and warmth, as there is some model guidance hinting that this could allow for low clouds and/or fog to develop this morning along/east of I-95, the National Weather Service reported. While north to northeast MD will cling to the cooler side with mid to upper 40s for highs, the rest can enjoy a mild evening as lows hover in the 40s.
As for those who like their air less mobile, Wednesday through Thursday promises a break with the departing low pressure giving rise to gusty northwest winds. High pressure usurps the throne, ensuring dry conditions and temperatures sustainably above normal. Although the frontal passage will leave a temporary chill with Wednesday night lows in the 30s, it'll be business as usual with mild highs come Thursday.
Looking forward to the weekend, we anticipate that a strong cold front will strut in on Saturday and Sunday, possibly throwing a spanner in the pleasant weather works. But before that, a closed upper ridge centered around Cuba into South Florida will maintain its influence across the Eastern Seaboard on Friday into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. This alludes to warmth, with high temperatures pressing boldly into the 60s, and, despite the cloud cover and intermittent rain showers, it's a stretch of weather not to be scoffed at.
In terms of advisories, there's none at present, but keep an eye on the waters, folks. Mariners could be facing conditions flirting with Small Craft Advisory thresholds as winds pick up ahead of each front. Whether by land or sea, Baltimore is set for a week of meteorological tug-of-war, so enjoy the warmth while it's here and prepare for the crisp closure to come.
