A new banh mi and Vietnamese coffee spot is lining up a move into West Allis Towne Center, and it is aiming to open as early as March if the city signs off. Banh Mi Corner, a fast-casual concept from local restaurateur Nadia Vo, is proposed as a counter-service restaurant that would add another quick lunch option along Greenfield Avenue, in a space near Dollar Tree. The application has already started working its way through the city review process and is headed to the Common Council next month.
Plan commission review and what’s on the menu
The proposal landed on the Plan Commission agenda yesterday, and city staff recommended approval of a conditional use permit and site review, subject to several conditions, according to the City of West Allis materials. As outlined by the Journal Sentinel, the application calls for a 32-seat interior, hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., a counter-order and pick-up model, and a menu centered on banh mi sandwiches and Vietnamese coffee. Drinks would also include milk and fruit teas, smoothies, and customizable options that could feature tapioca pearls or popping boba.
City filings attached to the application spell out the conditions tied to approval, including updated screening around an existing trash enclosure, installation of a public bicycle rack, and submission of signage and lighting plans for permits. With those boxes checked, the proposal is slated for consideration by the Common Council in February, which will determine whether Banh Mi Corner can hit its early March opening goal.
