A man from Bay Shore has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that took place last Thursday. Authorities say the incident resulted in the death of 40-year-old Joseph Fountain and may be New York State’s first homicide of the year.

According to ABC7NY, Nassau County authorities reported that Stephen Primm of Bay Shore fired a gun at Joseph Fountain during an apparent confrontation outside a residence in New Cassel. A third person, who has not been identified, was also involved. Fountain was struck by four bullets around 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

News 12 Long Island reports that officers responding to the incident found Fountain injured at a home on Railroad Avenue. He was taken to a nearby medical facility, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

In a public statement, Nassau police named 34-year-old Stephen Primm as the primary suspect. He is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Police also reported that Primm has a prior criminal record, including arrests for drug-related offenses, assault, and burglary.
