A woman in Berks County has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of her husband during a domestic dispute, as reported by FOX29. In an instance of domestic tragedy, Elizabeth McKenna, 46, turned herself in after police say she shot William Kelly, 53, on Tuesday night; the encounter turned deadly at their home on Walnut Street in Kutztown.
According to a detailed investigation, McKenna claimed she had been arguing with Kelly and retrieved a handgun from a safe, after which she shot him in the head at close range, then she placed the gun on the table and called the police on herself while a 10-year-old child was present upstairs but remained unharmed throughout the incident, information gathered by 6ABC indicates.
The incident, which has shocked the small Borough of Kutztown, occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m., and upon police arrival, Kelly was found deceased in the dining room; McKenna was taken into custody and is facing charges of first- and third-degree murder, along with two counts of aggravated assault, as reported by Local21News.
In her interaction with the authorities, "McKenna told detectives she and Kelly had been arguing and that he was antagonizing her," a sentiment that paints a grim picture of the moments leading up to the gunfire, as investigators related the dynamic of the couple's dispute, McKenna has since been incarcerated at the Berks County Courthouse where she awaits arraignment, and further proceedings of this unfortunate case will continue to unfold, as detailed by 6ABC.
