
The release of body camera footage by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office has provided a clearer perspective on the tragic events of December 21, 2025, when an altercation during a domestic disturbance call led to the death of Jose Arley Fernandez-Solano and left two deputies wounded. According to FOX San Antonio, the officers involved, Deputies Nathan Sigala and Nicholas Zinni, engaged with Fernandez-Solano who fired a stolen handgun first, resulting in a brief exchange of gunfire that was swiftly followed by the suspect's fatal shooting and the pronounced injuries to the deputies.
Deputies responded to a call from a woman who reported that Fernandez-Solano, her ex-boyfriend, had forcefully entered her home, threatening her and her children, KENS5 stated, the call, made in Spanish, revealed substantial fear as she also mentioned that the suspect had threatened to kill her family which prompted her to flee with her children and contact authorities from a safer distance. According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, the deputies were swiftly met with aggression from Fernandez-Solano who barricaded himself inside a bedroom and shortly thereafter, the gunfire commenced.
In the body camera video released for public viewing, viewers witness the intensity of the confrontation that unfolded in mere seconds. This includes the harrowing moment as captured on Deputy Zinni's camera, where after being struck, he is heard exclaiming, "I'm hit, I'm hit!" and manages to return fire at the downed suspect, as per KENS5. Moreover, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office detailed Fernandez-Solano's extensive criminal and immigration history, which included previous deportations, numerous calls for service at the residence, and active felony warrants related to domestic violence.
Both deputies, following sheriff’s office policy, have been placed on administrative leave and according to the same source, they are expected to return to limited duty once they receive medical and psychological clearance, the incident is currently still under investigation.
