Maui Powerhouse Gym is moving into one of central Maui’s busiest corridors, revealing it has purchased a 2.2-acre site next to the Kahului Costco for a flagship gym wrapped in a small retail village. Plans call for a two-story fitness facility of roughly 25,000 square feet alongside six commercial suites totaling about 10,000 square feet, pitched as a daily destination for island residents and visitors and a long-term investment in the heart of central Maui’s commercial strip.
As reported by Maui Now, the concept is a two-building village that pairs the two-story, approximately 25,000-square-foot Maui Powerhouse facility with six business suites totaling roughly 10,000 square feet. The outlet notes that the Kahului complex is expected to handle several hundred members at a time, include studios, heated saunas and recovery amenities, and run 24 hours a day in line with the chain’s other locations. Planning is in progress, with construction currently projected to begin in 2027.
Co-owner Peter Shenkin told Maui Now that “Kahului and Wailuku are the geographic and economic center of Maui,” and said the new flagship is intended to “tie the fitness chain together” and back an all-inclusive membership spanning the gym’s Kihei, Lahaina and Kahului sites. Shenkin added that owning the Kahului building is key to the gym’s long-term commitment to the island and that the village layout is designed as a community “third place” where people can work out, shop and gather. Officials say more details on design and tenants will roll out as the planning process moves ahead.

The parcel is listed as 98 Lauo Loop in the Maui Business Park, immediately east of the Kahului Costco, according to MLS and commercial listing records. Public records and listings indicate the lot comes in at roughly 2.27 acres and that the property changed hands in mid-May 2025. Local firm Pili Design + Build is handling architecture and design for the project, while Kean Properties is listed as the leasing agent for the commercial suites.
