An arrest has been made in the Katy-area double homicide of Christopher and Trinette Lopez, both 52, whose deaths on January 12 at their Bent Springs Lane home are believed to be connected to a custody dispute over their adopted 7-year-old daughter. Norman Lee Johnson, the biological father of the child, was charged with capital murder and was apprehended in Round Rock, Texas, and is being held in Williamson County Jail pending transfer to Harris County.
Johnson had previously faced harassment charges for threatening the Lopez family in October 2024. In a statement, the couple’s children said, "Detective Mace worked hard to help bring our parents killer into custody. We hope that he is charged to the fullest extent of the law. Our parents deserve justice and to know that we are safe from his harm," as reported by KHOU.
Around 5:43 a.m., Christopher and Trinette Lopez were shot and killed in their home. Christopher had a gunshot wound to the face, and Trinette had two gunshot wounds to the head and one to her hand, as determined by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, as per Click2Houston. Their two adult children and 7-year-old daughter, who were asleep upstairs, were not hurt. Deputies arrived after one of the adult children called around 6 a.m. No signs of forced entry or weapon were found. The investigation is ongoing as Johnson awaits court proceedings.
