The City Council of Bloomington is opening its doors to the public for a conversation that cuts to the core of the community—immigration enforcement. On Monday, February 2, from 5 to 6:15 p.m., city residents will have the opportunity to share their perspectives directly with city officials, making their voices heard in the City Council Chambers at Bloomington Civic Plaza, located at 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road.
This "special listening session" isn't a run-of-the-mill council meet-up; it's a focused platform specifically designed to gather input on how immigration policies are affecting the community members they are intended to serve. According to the City of Bloomington's official announcement, after the immigration enforcement discourse, the council might address other issues, but only if the clock allows.
Each participant is allotted up to three minutes to address the Mayor and City Council, which is enough time to make a point without making a night of it. While walk-ins are welcome, pre-registration is waving its hand at you, suggesting it's a good idea for those who want to ensure their turn at the mic. The interested parties should email [email protected] to get themselves on the list.
In this digital age, not everyone can, or wants to, show up in person. For the remote crowd, there's an audio call-in option for contributing your thoughts by phone. Dial in to 1-415-655-0001, punch in the access code: 2870 258 3848# followed by the password 020226# to join the session. Press *3, to "raise your hand" when you want to speak—you'll stay on mute until it's your turn in the queue.
