If you are looking to improve physical fitness or learn basic self-defense skills, a new class is now available at the Optimist Community Center. The Kali Kempo Self Defense course combines Chinese and Filipino martial arts techniques and is open to participants of all fitness levels.

According to the City of Raleigh, the classes are held twice a week and are divided by age group. Youth classes for ages 8 to 13 run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., while adult classes for ages 14 and older are scheduled from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The program is open to anyone aged 8 and up and follows a group-based format that allows participants to progress at their own pace. A drop-in option is available for $15 per session. Full session rates are $80 for youth and $95 for adults.
