Officers from the Bremerton Police Department's Directed Enforcement Team (DET) recently engaged with a man under suspicious circumstances while he was seated in his vehicle in downtown Bremerton, an area notorious for drug activity. The BPD shared details of the incident on social media, reporting that their encounter with the individual took place on Tuesday, January 20. Officers observed odd behavior from the man, who provided peculiar responses to their inquiries and appeared excessively nervous.
When the officers requested for the man to step out of his vehicle, they spotted that he was sitting on a handgun. According to the BPD's post, this discovery was particularly problematic since the man is a convicted felon, thus prohibited to legally possess such a weapon. A subsequent examination revealed the presence of drug paraphernalia in plain view.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the subject and his subsequent booking into jail. A search warrant executed on the vehicle resulted in the seizure of several incriminating items. It was reported by BPD that officers recovered a loaded firearm, approximately three ounces of cocaine, materials related to drug distribution, and an amount close to $3,000 in cash. The police department’s facebook post revealed that the man has been previously convicted for narcotics delivery and unlawful possession of firearms.
