Eastlake High School in far East El Paso briefly went on a precautionary hold Thursday after staff and district police confiscated a weapon from a student, according to school officials. Classes did not empty, and there were no injuries reported, with students kept in place under the watch of faculty and staff while the situation was handled.
Weapon Recovered, Hold Lifted
According to KVIA, the principal told parents that "district personnel and police investigated the situation and retrieved a weapon from a student." The principal also emphasized that "students were safe and under the supervision of faculty and staff" throughout the incident, and said the brief hold on campus operations has since been lifted.
District Response and Safety Resources
Socorro Independent School District runs its own police services and emergency-management teams and says campuses follow established alert protocols whenever a potential threat is reported. During these kinds of incidents, the district directs families to its official notification systems and published safety resources rather than relying on rumor or social media chatter.
Not Tied to Earlier Campus Fight
The principal also clarified that Thursday's weapon incident is separate from a fight earlier in the week in which a student was injured, an altercation previously reported by KVIA. That earlier case remains under investigation by the district police, and the students involved have not been publicly identified.
How Families Can Stay Informed
Parents and students who want to report concerns or tips can use SISD's anonymous reporting tool, Anonymous Alerts, or contact school police directly. Law enforcement is leading the current inquiry, and school leaders say they will share updates with families as appropriate.
