A late afternoon crash on a rural stretch of County Highway BD in the Town of Brighton turned deadly yesterday, leaving one driver dead and sending two others to area hospitals, officials said. The three-vehicle wreck happened just after 4 p.m. in Kenosha County. One driver died at the scene, another was flown by medical helicopter, and a third was taken by ambulance. Kansasville Fire and Rescue said all three people involved were drivers.

As reported by FOX6, Kansasville Fire and Rescue told the station the collision occurred on County Highway BD near State Highway 11, and that one of the injured drivers was transported by Flight for Life. The fire chief shared details with reporters, and Kansasville crews were among the units that responded. FOX6 also noted this crash was separate from another three-vehicle collision in Brighton earlier that morning.

Separate morning crash on STH 142

An earlier morning collision on State Highway 142 also kept first responders busy, according to coverage that cited a Kansasville Fire and Rescue social media post about traffic diversions and the emergency response. That wreck sent at least one driver to the hospital and briefly shut down lanes while crews cleared debris. Together, the two incidents stretched resources across rural Brighton on Thursday.

Extreme cold was sweeping the region

The deadly crash unfolded as southeast Wisconsin braced for an extreme arctic blast and dangerously low wind chills, with the National Weather Service issuing an Extreme Cold Warning for much of the region. The agency warned that wind chills could be life-threatening and urged residents to limit time outdoors, conditions that can make driving and rescue work on rural roads even more hazardous. Authorities have not linked the weather to the Brighton crash as the investigation continues.

As FOX6 reported, investigators had not released the names of those involved or made any determination of the cause by Thursday night. The station said it is working to learn more, while local authorities have yet to issue a formal update. Anyone with information about the collision was asked to contact local law enforcement, according to the reporting.
