Boston's Citizens Opera House and Emerson Colonial Theatre are gearing up for an electrifying 2026-27 Broadway season, packed with a diverse lineup of shows ranging from war-time musical comedies to gothic romances. As announced by Broadway In Boston and reported by Boston.com, the new season will feature eight national touring productions set to hit the stage for 28 weeks of entertainment. Noteworthy additions include "Operation Mincemeat," "The Phantom of the Opera," and the Olivier Award-winning "Maybe Happy Ending."
Subscribers can look forward to priority access and a broad spectrum of draws, with second-time round shows like the fan-favorite "Wicked" returning, from Sept. 23-Nov. 15 at the Citizens Opera House, and the comedy-drama "Death Becomes Her," ready to occupy the same venue from Jan. 12-24, 2027. Tivon Marcus, Vice President of Broadway in Boston, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming roster, stating, "We are so proud of the upcoming season and thankful to our subscribers, sponsors, and Broadway fans throughout New England for their longtime support, making each season better and better," as mentioned by Boston.com.
Meanwhile, the Boston Globe provided further insights, highlighting the addition of "The Notebook," a tale of enduring love set to run from Dec. 8-20 at the Emerson Colonial Theatre. Announced Thursday afternoon, the Broadway In Boston season includes eight musicals and three other productions available as add-ons, bring much-well-known titles such as "Mamma Mia!" and "The Book of Mormon" to the mix. With a varied array of Tony winners and classics, the hit musical "Maybe Happy Ending," described as a "poignant gem," is slated for Feb. 2-14, 2027, at the Citizens Opera House, offering light after the over-the-top "Death Becomes Her" has kicked off the year, according to the Boston Globe.
Subscription packages for this theatrical extravaganza are now available through Broadway In Boston, with the promise of automatically renewing current 2025–26 season subscribers for the next season on January 30. Subscribers receive the privilege to opt for premium seating and additional VIP benefits, but as The Boston Globe playfully warned, the “indestructible” Mamma Mia! might just invite every groom-to-be’s father to the wedding—so be prepared for some romantic chaos from April 13–25, 2027, at the Citizens Opera House. Subscribers should also note, as stated by Boston.com, that they have 30 days from the season announcement to cancel without penalty.
Individual show tickets can be purchased through Broadway In Boston, with the full lineup entailing eleven shows and endless curtain calls from fall to summer. Among the finely selected catalog is Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," which will capture audiences' hearts from July 21-Aug. 8, 2027, at the Emerson Colonial Theatre, ensuring that the season concludes on a high melodramatic note. Described as "thrilling from beginning to end" by New York Times critic Elizabeth Vincentelli, "Hell’s Kitchen" featuring Alicia Keys's music will be the crescendo before "The Phantom," set for June 1-13, 2027, at the Citizens Opera House set the season to music, as reported by the Boston Globe.
