The Bronx legal community highlighted the career of one of its longstanding members when the District Attorneys Association of New York (DAASNY) awarded Joseph Muroff, Chief of the Special Victims Division at the Bronx District Attorney's Office, with the esteemed Morgenthau Award. This accolade, named after the esteemed former New York County District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau, is given to assistant district attorneys across the state who exemplify professional excellence, unwavering integrity, and a deep commitment to justice.
According to a press release by the Bronx District Attorney's Office, Muroff's 40-year dedication to the people of the Bronx, notably to those affected by crime, was lauded by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. In her statement, Clark reflected on Muroff's tenure, articulating respect and admiration for his command of the law, his compassionate and innovative approach to crime victims, and his mentorship. Under his leadership, the office has enhanced services for individuals including the elderly, children, and victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking, as well as a rapid response to shooting victims.
Muroff has been with the Bronx District Attorney's Office since 1986 and has held various pivotal roles, such as Supervisor in the Complaint Room and Narcotics Bureau, Deputy Chief in the Criminal Court, and leader of the Domestic Violence/Sex Crimes (DVS) and Child Abuse/Sex Crimes (CAS) Bureaus. His direct involvement in the establishment of landmark initiatives such as the Bronx Integrated Domestic Violence (IDV) Court Part, the Bronx Sexual Assault Task Force, and the Bronx Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)—the first in New York State—is noteworthy.
The Morgenthau Award is not distributed lightly; it is a manifestation of the prosecutor's commitment to justice and service to community. DAASNY's annual Winter Conference, which took place at the Intercontinental New York Barclay Hotel in Manhattan, served as a backdrop for Muroff to receive this prestigious recognition. Not only does the award honor Muroff's decades of hard work, but it also keeps the legacy and standard of excellence set by Robert M. Morgenthau in the legal field alive. With Muroff's extensive experience and substantial contributions to the Bronx, the Bronx District Attorney's Office press release portrays a career that is nothing short of exemplary.
