A Brooklyn woman has been charged with multiple crimes after allegedly posing as a licensed doctor and performing a Brazilian butt lift procedure that left a patient with serious medical complications.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, the defendant, Nargiza Shukurova, 39, is accused of performing the procedure on May 7, 2023, at a salon in Sheepshead Bay that was not authorized to conduct surgical procedures. Prosecutors say Shukurova was not licensed to practice medicine in New York and promoted herself online as “Dr. Nargiza” or “Dr. Nargis.”
According to investigators, the victim did not receive a medical examination or review of her medical history before the procedure. Afterward, the victim developed severe complications and an infection. Prosecutors allege Shukurova discouraged the victim from seeking medical care as her condition worsened.
The victim later lost consciousness at home and was taken to a hospital, where she underwent multiple surgeries to treat the infection.
Authorities allege Shukurova later sent messages asking the victim to conceal who performed the procedure and where it took place. Shukurova was arrested earlier this month at Los Angeles International Airport on a Kings County warrant.
She was arraigned before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun and charged with second-degree assault, unauthorized practice of a profession, and reckless endangerment. Bail was set at $25,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
The case is being prosecuted by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office following a multi-agency investigation.
