A Youngker High School student was taken into custody after authorities discovered an Instagram post in which he threatened a school shooting. The Buckeye Police Department affirmed that, thanks to the swift actions of law enforcement and the school community, there is currently no ongoing threat to students or the wider community.
The report of the threatening post came to light at around 3 p.m. on January 8, 2026, when an anonymous student alerted the School Resource Officer stationed on campus. Despite having seen the troubling message, the student couldn't peg the owner of the Instagram account. The Criminal Investigations Division of the Buckeye Police sprang into action, tracing the digital breadcrumbs back to 18-year-old Isaiah Chavez, a student at Youngker High School. Arrested at his home around 9 p.m., Chavez now faces charges stemming from his online activity, even though he made the threatening post during the day.
As reported by the City of Buckeye's official news release, the Buckeye police emphasized the gravity with which they regard any potential threats towards educational institutions. The cohesive effort of both the school's resource officers and the police detectives was instrumental in swiftly quelling the potential danger posed by the threat.
The police department has also issued commendations to the student whose vigilance brought the Instagram threat to their attention. "We commend the actions of the student who promptly reported the online threat," a department spokesperson stated. Buckeye authorities continue to encourage the public to adhere to the "see something, say something" ethos, affirming community vigilance as a cornerstone of public safety, despite the fact that threats like these shake the community's feeling of security.
