A vehicle caught fire on Old State Rd. at Ensign Rd. in Claridon Township, as reported by the Burton Volunteer Fire Department via a social media post. The incident occurred recently, though the exact time has not been specified. At the time of the fire, two out of the three on-duty crew members were engaged in a prior EMS call. The Burton Volunteer Fire Department managed to quickly respond with one member on the engine and was assisted by the Middlefield Fire Department.
Despite the limitations of their crew's availability, the Burton Fire Department effectively coordinated to confront the blaze. They had to quickly act to call for mutual aid from neighboring Middlefield, showcasing a sense of community and readiness to together tackle emergent crises together. The vehicle involved in the fire is said to be a total loss and was already earmarked for auction in the near future. "The vehicle is considered a complete loss and was reported to be scheduled to be sent to auction in the near future," the Burton Volunteer Fire Department stated in their post.
The closure of Old State Rd. ensued for approximately 90 minutes, during which cleanup crews worked to remove the vehicle wreckage and clear the roadway of debris. This event caused temporary alterations in the traffic patterns of the usually tranquil Claridon Township, redirecting the flow of late evening commutes and the movement of residents and passersby.
