Winter enthusiasts, the wait is over. As the mercury dips, Carver County Parks has opened its proverbial doors for snowshoe and cross-country ski rentals. Kicking off on January 3 at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park and Baylor Regional Park, outdoor lovers can now indulge in the seasonal pastime of gliding or trekking through the snowy landscapes.
Available exclusively on the weekends, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors have the choice between strapping on classic cross-country skis or stepping into the less conventional snowshoes. Despite the snow, there's no need for reservations; simply show up, suit up, and slide out. Carver County Parks announced this offering in a social media post, noting the modest price of "$5 for two hours, including skis with boots and poles or snowshoes."
For those spur-of-the-moment decisions to enjoy the winter's chill, the no-reservations policy is a welcoming feature. Carver County Parks seems to understand that sometimes the urge to feel the crunch of snow underfoot or hear the swish of skis slicing through fresh powder can't be planned.
Keeping track of the fickle nature of winter weather can be tiresome for potential visitors. That's why Carver County Parks has provided a winter hotline, dial 952-466-5237, for the latest trail conditions and rental updates. And, weather permitting, the parks will ensure the gear is ready and the landscapes groomed for a weekend of wintry exertions.
