Early Monday morning, a northbound drive on I-610 near Westheimer Road in Houston’s Galleria area turned violent when two people in their mid-20s were shot at while in their car. The male driver was hit in the abdomen and leg and taken to a hospital in stable condition. His female passenger was not reported injured. The pair told officers they heard two gunshots, pulled off the roadway, and said they did not know why they were targeted.

Lt. Willkens of the Houston Police Department told FOX 26 Houston that officers responded after the couple reported hearing two shots in the main lanes of the freeway. The man was found inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital in stable condition. At the time of the initial briefing, police had no information about a possible suspect.

The shooting adds to a string of high-profile violence in and around the Galleria area. Last June, a fatal Galleria parking garage shooting at the mall was reported, and the Houston Chronicle noted that officers reviewed surveillance footage and briefly detained several people as investigators worked that scene.
