A Charleston bagel veteran is setting his sights on Nashville, with Berry Hill as his landing pad and the rest of the city in his crosshairs. Joe Harvey, co-owner of Ruby’s New York Style Bagels, is rolling out a new concept called Harvey’s New York Style Bagels, with an initial shop planned for Berry Hill and another headed for West Nashville. The broader chain strategy and exact opening dates have not been announced.
Planned locations
According to reporting originally highlighted by the Nashville Business Journal and relayed by What Now Nashville, Harvey’s has lined up a spot at 2526 Eighth Ave. S. in Berry Hill and has another site coming to West Nashville. That reporting also notes that Harvey is eyeing several other suburban and neighborhood targets, including Brentwood, Mt. Juliet, Hendersonville, Franklin and Green Hills. What Now Nashville states that its coverage is based on details first surfaced by the Nashville Business Journal.
From Charleston to Nashville
Harvey is best known as a co-founder of Ruby’s New York Style Bagels in the Charleston area, where the brand lists multiple storefronts across the Lowcountry. Ruby's New York Style Bagels says the team has worked on its dough, fermentation, and water chemistry to recreate a New York style bagel and lists six area locations on its site. The Ruby’s site also points to Harvey’s earlier experience running coffee shops in the Northeast, a background that the new Nashville concept appears to build on.
Where it will sit
The Berry Hill parcel at 2526 Eighth Ave. S. sits in the middle of a wave of mixed-use development along the Melrose and Eighth Avenue corridor and is listed in commercial property records and listings such as LoopNet. That compact but busy stretch of Berry Hill would put a quick-service bagel shop in front of neighborhood foot traffic, nearby office workers and studio regulars. Commercial listings for the property lay out basic demographic and leasing details aimed at potential tenants.
Local scene and timing
Nashville is not exactly a bagel desert. The city already has New York style options, including H&S Bagels on 17th Avenue South, so Harvey’s would be jumping into an already competitive breakfast and catering scene. Operators in that space typically rely on early morning regulars, office catering and weekend lines to build momentum, a playbook that could shape how quickly Harvey’s grows across the region.
As for when all of this kicks off, the timeline is still fuzzy. What Now Nashville reports that opening dates remain unclear and notes that the outlet has reached out to Harvey for additional comment.
