As Charlotte, NC gears up for a weather rollercoaster, the National Weather Service has laid out the forecast for the upcoming days, placing special emphasis on a weekend that may have more thunder than sparkle. NWS predicts a 50 percent chance of showers post-2pm today, coupled with morning fog and cloudy skies. The trend of precipitation continues with an 80 percent likelihood of showers tonight and potential thunderstorms on Saturday.
The forecast, however, isn't solely looking grey; by Sunday, the sun is set to claim the sky, promising mostly sunny weather and clear nights through to Monday. Temperatures will fluctuate accordingly, with highs ranging from the 50s to the low 70s, and lows dipping near freezing as the week progresses. While gusty winds could manifest, residents can look forward to a sunny Tuesday before the clouds gather once again midweek, hinting at a 30 percent chance of rain by next Thursday.
More critical in the near term is the Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC, which alerts to the potential for isolated thunderstorms on Saturday. These systems could bring strong wind gusts or briefly spawn tornadoes, with the side effects possibly extending to toppled trees and minor structural damage.
The weather service has made it clear that, although hazardous weather is not expected today or tonight, the region should brace for what Mother Nature might unleash during the weekend. "Isolated thunderstorms Saturday could produce a few strong wind gusts or even a short-lived tornado, which could also damage trees or minor structural damage to buildings," cautions the weather outlook. The NWS has not called for spotter activation, suggesting that while the storm's risk is present, it is not considered widespread or imminent.
