
A tragic event unfolded in Citrus Heights yesterday morning when a woman died after her vehicle collided with a utility pole. The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of Greenback Lane and Dewey Drive, ABC10 reports. Police were alerted by an automated notification from the SUV and upon arrival, officers found the solo vehicle accident and the driver unresponsive, KCRA confirmed.
Sacramento Metro Fire personnel quickly took over from Citrus Heights police officers who had begun emergency life-saving measures the driver then was transported to a local hospital but despite all efforts, she did not survive and was pronounced dead, this according to the details provided by FOX40. The Citrus Heights Police Department is actively investigating the crash and while it's still early in their investigation the initial findings suggest that alcohol may have been a contributing factor the Citrus Heights Police Department urged drivers especially in such conditions to take necessary precautions to avoid similar tragedies.
Eastbound Greenback Lane saw closures of approximately two and a half hours between Dewey Drive and Hilltree Avenue while the crash scene was being investigated and cleared. The woman's identity has not been released as authorities are in the process of notifying her next of kin with that detail yet to come. The Citrus Heights Police Department is calling for witnesses or anyone who has information on the events leading up to the crash, to reach out to their Traffic Unit.
Authorities reminded local residents about the dangers of impaired driving in their statements "The Citrus Heights Police Department reminds drivers that alcohol, fog, and reduced visibility significantly increase crash risk,” and advised area motorists to exercise caution by slowing down and using low-beam headlights in foggy conditions.
