Cleveland authorities have apprehended 47-year-old Ronald Loftis in connection with a brutal aggravated robbery and a carjacking that occurred last Friday morning, as reported by Cleveland Division of Police. The Cleveland 19 outlined the incident, which involved the suspect approaching a woman at approximately 7:30 a.m. on the 7900 block of Madison Avenue, demanding money at gunpoint. The confrontation escalated when the victim was unable to provide cash, leading to Loftis forcibly taking her vehicle and discharging a firearm that struck her in the face.
Following the robbery, the woman's car was quickly recovered, initiating a swift investigation. According to a statement obtained by WKYC, Cleveland Police, along with the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC), located Loftis at a residence on the East Side of the city. He was arrested without incident and is currently being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail, pending charges that include attempted murder and aggravated robbery.
The victim, a 38-year-old mother, was placing her one-year-old son in his car seat at the time of the attack. In a harrowing account detailed by her daughter Jovanna Muscatello in a FOX 8 News interview, the assailant threatened the victim's life before shooting her and then removed the child from the car, throwing him out into the snow.
"This was a senseless and violent crime carried out with complete disregard for human life," Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd stated. The chief's comments were echoed across the reports, including in the Cleveland 19 release, commending the police force's decisive action in apprehending Loftis.
