Cobb County residents can access free tax preparation assistance through AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers, with services offered at six county library locations. The program provides in-person support during the tax filing season at no cost to participants.
Beginning January 15, residents who wish to use the free tax preparation service must schedule an appointment through AARP’s online reservation system, according to the Cobb County. Walk-ins and same-day appointments will not be accepted, so advance booking is required.
Taxpayers using the AARP Tax-Aide program are advised to review the list of required documents ahead of their appointment, which is available through the provided online link. According to the program, volunteers aim to complete returns on the same day, allowing participants to wait at the library or return later to pick up their completed filing.
For residents who prefer to file their taxes independently, Cobb County libraries also provide free federal 2025 Form 1040 packets and instruction booklets. Libraries offer up to 10 pages of free printing for federal and state tax forms, though printing does not apply to instruction manuals. Library staff are not able to answer tax-related questions or provide guidance on form selection; however, filers can find additional assistance and official information through the IRS and Georgia Department of Revenue websites.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers will provide free tax preparation assistance at six Cobb County libraries beginning in February, with appointments required through AARP’s online reservation system. Services will be offered Mondays at Gritters Library from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at South Cobb Regional Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from February 2 through April 13, Tuesdays at East Cobb Library from 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. from February 3 through April 14, Thursdays at Mountain View and Switzer libraries from February 5 through April 9, and Fridays at North Cobb Regional Library from February 6 through April 10, excluding Good Friday on April 4.
For residents who prefer to schedule ahead, all self-appointment links and contact email addresses are available in the Cobb County website, allowing taxpayers to secure a time slot online and plan ahead as the tax filing deadline approaches.
Additional resources and key contact information for IRS services, the Georgia Department of Revenue, and VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) are available for residents.
