The Cocoa Beach community is grappling with tragedy following a fatal traffic accident on Brevard Avenue. The Cocoa Police Department has identified the victim as 25-year-old Lexis Julia Jordan, who was struck and killed by a pickup truck last Friday at 1 p.m. The 2016 Dodge Ram 1500, operated by a 64-year-old man, lost control due to a medical emergency experienced by the driver, resulting in the accident that claimed Jordan's life and left another man injured, as stated in a release from WESH report.
The midday crash, which unfolded before the eyes of numerous onlookers, has left the small community shaken. The lamentation of loss echoed by a local business owner, Diana Lynn, who described the incident's impact, "It's devastating. It's devastating. We are a very tight-knit community. It's very, very tragic," according to WESH. Witness Amy Matthews recounted the immediate aftermath with harrowing clarity, "They were doing CPR on her they had to pull her out," in an interview with the same publication.
Details of the crash are still under investigation by the traffic homicide investigators from the Cocoa Police Department, who are examining the circumstances leading up to the tragedy, according to information gleaned from a WFTV report. The male pedestrian who was accompanying Jordan reportedly refused medical treatment, while the driver was hospitalized following the incident.
