On a brisk January morning, a theft at a Collierville business led to a showcase of inter-agency cooperation and ultimately, the arrest of two individuals. The Collierville Police Department credited "teamwork and follow-up investigative work" for the swift apprehension and recovery of stolen goods, as reported in a social media post by the Collierville Police Department.
The incident, which occurred on January 11, involved the theft of merchandise valued at around $1,600 from a business situated at 560 W. Poplar, as detailed by the Collierville Police Department. The store's security personnel were quick to provide investigators with pivotal information about suspects and their vehicle. With this lead, the Collierville Police Department's Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) embarked on an investigation that would soon bear fruit.
By January 13, SEU officers, in collaboration with the Memphis Police Department's Appling Farms Precinct and the Memphis Safe Task Force, had zeroed in on the suspects' location in Memphis, near Sycamore View and I-40. This coordinated effort resulted in two suspects being taken into custody "without incident." A subsequent search warrant at the location led not only to the recovery of the stolen goods but also unveiled illegal narcotics, a handgun, drug paraphernalia, and roughly $1,000 in cash.
The response to this theft underscores the effectiveness of regional partnerships in addressing crime. The Collierville Police Department has since charged the suspects with "Theft Over $1,000 and Violation of the Organized Retail Crime Prevention Act," and noted they were transported back to the Collierville Jail. MPD is expected to file additional charges in connection with the contraband uncovered during the search. In the words of the department, "This case highlights the importance of proactive investigations and strong regional partnerships in keeping our communities safe."
